How You Can Help

The Crawfordsville Community Garden

The Crawfordsville Community Garden has been a smashing success and we are now getting ready for the 2012 garden season!!!

A community garden grows two types of things - plants and community! Building community is actually one of the more important goals of any community garden. When there is a community garden in a community, people start to develop a sense of pride and ownership in the community. Community gardens can help foster better relationships with members of the community.

A garden can be an outlet for fun and relaxation. People can start to learn about the financial and health benefits of freshly grown food products which have not been poisoned with the various industrial chemicals that are present in so many of the foods we buy at the local grocery store. A community garden can also contribute to food security. If food prices continue to rise, then a community garden provides an opportunity for people to obtain healthy, low-cost food items.

If you want to help us with this (or other projects), just click the "How You Can Help" link on the left. We can always use help with various project, and welcome you to participate. We will also gratefully accept any donations. Remember that Sustainable Indiana is registered as a non-profit corporation, so your donations are tax deductible. We can also use garden tools. If you have tools that you no longer need, we can make good use of them! We would even be happy to come and pick them up.

Getting Ready for the 2012 Season!

If you are a 2011 Community Gardener in “good standing”, you’ll be receiving an application from us by the end of February. Please carefully review the new application and rules as they have changed. Note that we have increased the annual fee to $30. $15 will be returned at the end of the season if you comply with garden rules. Returning gardeners have until March 20 (first day of Spring) to submit their fee in order to reserve plots. After that, we open remaining plots to the general public – with the official kick-off at the Master Gardener Show, March 23 – 24, 2012.
