To be considered for inclusion in the Green Directory, we require that the provider have a a primary focus on sustainable values. It would not be considered sufficient if your company or organization offers "green" products or services, but this constitutes a minor, secondary focus of your company or organization. For example, if you have a lawn care business and you have access to organic lawn care products for sale to your customers, but 95% of your business involves doing lawn care work in the traditional manner (i.e. using lots of harsh chemicals), then we would not consider listing your company. On the other hand, if you have a lawn care business in which a primary focus is educating consumers about the dangers of using harsh chemicals on their lawns, and helping them to taking care of their lawns in a more sustainable, environmentally-aware manner, then this certainly WOULD be the sort of business that would be encouraged to promote its services in the Green Directory.
In addition, there will be additional requirements to be included in the Local Food Guide component of the Directory. For example, one would obviously need to be a local food producer. We are currently in the process of reviewing these criteria as part of the 2012 rollout of the online version of the Local Food Guide.
This directory is offered by Sustainable Indiana, Inc. We hope to make it easier for people to live in a more sustainable manner, by making it easier for people to buy local food, find organizations that are working toward promoting sustainable goals, etc... We do not charge anything for this service. However, we feel that it is a very valuable service to offer both to the community and to the vendors. If you want to support our work, donations can easily be made through PayPal. Please give generously if you would like to see us continue to offer this service!
